Strange Encounters

Image
Stone Poem to Strange Encounters on the Shores of Cayuga Lake by Fernando Llosa I just found this assemblage of Fernando's when I was looking through the files for something else.  Wonderful elements and juxtaposition!  This was in a show at Corners Gallery a few years ago. As pieces sell it's easy to forget them, so finding this was a nice surprise.

In God's House.

Image
In God's House Surrounded by the sun, moon and stars, the Earth and the ocean waves, the pillars of civilization and the remnants of all that has been, the human being sits within the womb of self and wonders whose house he is occupying in this unknowable universe.

The Accumulation of Memory

Image
The Accumulation of Memory It’s three in the morning and I can’t sleep. I am overcome by my memories. I notice that I am not generating my thoughts, but that they descend upon me, consuming my attention and blocking awareness of the immediate surroundings.  I am so focused on the stories and recollections that it is as if I am under a huge pile of mental debris, the accumulated images of the past. With one deep breath, and a shift of perspective to the space I am actually in, the overwhelming past disappears.

The Sower Has Roots

Image
The Sower Has Roots The roots of the plants in this magnificent garden penetrate into the ground, gathering their nourishment from the soil and water, while their stems push up through the earth to the air and sun, allowing flowers, fruit and seeds to mature.  The gardener, small in scale compared to nature’s abundance, moves among these plants, admires their beauty, harvests their produce, gathers and plants seeds for the next generation.  We may feel that we are free agents as we move easily among the plants, but we are dependent on their bounty, and just like them, we survive on the nutrients of the soil, as well as the air, water and sunshine to sustain our lifecycle. We are fully rooted in the totality of existence.

Under the Rug This is my new series of oil paintings on plaster. You may remember a series I did a few years ago with this technique.  I love the surface quality.  The series is a commentary on the experience of being human. I am trying to be more aware of what is usually not seen or talked about and create images that reflect my observations.  Awareness No Separation The  Human Animal The Accumulation of Memory The Emergence of Form  The Birth of the Universe The Sower Has Roots Riding the Wave  Freedom and Anxiety A Leap of Faith  In God's House Just One More The Story I Was Told Looking Under the Rug

Stone Poem to a Summer Day on Cayuga Lake What You Are Looking For Is Where You Are Looking From print from a sumi-ink painting on glass The studio has been overtaken in recent weeks with the production of stone poems and there are two new beautiful stone assemblages in this show. Fernando is also, for the first time, showing three prints from the sumi-ink glass plates, in a large scale format that really allows the viewer to enter into the details and space of the images. The gallery will also display a portfolio of 60 smaller prints, from the sumi-ink glass plates. Looking through the portfolio is great way to see the scope of this project that Fernando has been working on for over 7 years. The show will be up until August 31. Kim and Fernando
